Twelve Spies - Game Script Faith, Loyalty, and Hope

Background

Thousands of years ago, twelve spies were sent into Canaan to scout out the land for Moses and the Israelites. Ten of the spies returned with exaggerated claims of danger and urging the Israelites to return to Egypt, while two spies insisted the land was fertile and worth fighting for. God punished the fearful spies and the pessimistic Israelites by sentencing them to wander the desert for a further 40 years before being allowed to settle in Canaan.

In the present day, Moses, the two faithful spies and two of the naysayer spies are resurrected to stand trial. Was God right to punish the spies? What crime did these spies actually commit?

Public Message (a while after previous message)

The ten spies used metaphors to scare and sway the Israelites, saying that the inhabitants of Canaan were "giants," looking down on them: "we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight." (Numbers 13:33).

Please respond to this testimony!

Discussion Points

  1. Discuss the voting results (Are they in the same ratio as in the story of the spies?) and interesting arguments that were raised during the game
  2. Was their justification in the spies' lying to get out of invading Canaan?
  3. 'we became like grasshoppers in our own sight...' - What do you think about this verse?
  4. Does this change your judgment of the spies?
