STUCK - Game Script The camping mystery

Background

You attend a week-long camping trip that was organized by the local community. The trip takes place far from civilization, in the eerie woods. The last morning of the trip, everyone awakes to discover that their cellphones have been stolen and the tires of the minibus have been purposely punctured. Among the crowd, five teenagers stand out as possible suspects. Try to solve the mystery by figuring out who is responsible….someone doesn’t want to return to civilization…

Characters

Simple Sam high school student

You are a down-to-earth teen who has a hard time making friends. You are intelligent beyond your years and find the other kids your age childish and uninteresting. Your parents encouraged you to attend the trip so that you can meet new people and try new things. Who knows, maybe even have some fun. You do enjoy the trip and make new friends, your social confidence has been boosted, you intend on keeping in touch and attending future gatherings.

Your Task

Convince the others that you are innocent. Tell them that as much as you enjoyed, you are not the type of person who is dramatic or psychotic enough to jeopardize the others’ safety. Try solving the mystery and find a way home.

Resources

Adventurous Alex College freshman

You are a lover of extreme sports and the outdoors. You were in The Scouts as a kid and love to show your survival skills in nature. You attended this trip because you feel you want to teach others the useful skills of survival. You have applied to the television show “Survivor” but were rejected as a result of your bad temper. You took this rejection badly.

Your Task

Convince the others that you are innocent. Tell them that this kind of camping is beneath you and the conditions are not extreme enough for your liking. Try solving the mystery and find a way home.

Resources

Sergeant Smith Responsible adult

You were appointed by the community parents as the responsible adult on the trip. You were high ranking in the army and have much experience in the area of survival. You are cold and strict and the group fears you. Although you left the army years ago, your role is still evident in your daily life..as well as the horrors you witnessed.

Your Task

You are guilty of sabotaging the minibus and cutting off any source of communication back home. Your intentions are to teach the group a life lesson. You need to convince the others that you are innocent. You want them to focus on the goal-getting home safely and not on blaming each other. Facilitate the arguments without revealing your plan.

Resources

Betty Bawler Hypochondriac

You are a sensitive girl with many phobias. As part of your therapy, your therapist and parents registered you to the trip so that you can face and overcome your irrational fears. The trip was awful in your opinion and no one understood. You fantasize about putting them in your shoes so that they will know the fear you experience on a daily basis…only then they can understand.

Your Task

Defend your character with a good argument. Many will blame you due to your dramatic reactions and tendency to get hysterical and say and do things you regret. Be prepared to fight for your status as innocent. Solve the mystery by identifying the who wants to keep the group from going home and why.

Resources

Iris Hippy

A lover of nature and coming together.  You attend the trip with love and excitement because people and nature are your two favorite things. You are the guitar player at the campfire and the peacemaker in feuds. You get the group doing yoga and meditations every morning. Some complain when you wake them with your flute at 6am but you assure them that waking with the sun will be worth the crankiness. You enjoy every moment of the trip and could live in the woods forever.

Your Task

Defend your character with a good argument. Try to maintain the peace in the group by diverting blame and trying to focus on the main goal-getting home. Facilitate the group when they divert from the goal and return to trying to find a way home.

Discussion Points

Why did you decide that specific character is guilty?

What idea did you come up with to get the group home safely?

Now if I were to tell you that the entire mystery was set up by the responsible adult Sergeant Smith to teach the group a life lesson: Not stereotyping/labeling people based on their backgrounds or traits as well as giving the benefit of the doubt. He wanted them to protect each other when being accused as well as work as a team to find a way home.
